We proceed towards the mountain, on a dirt road that at times climbs steeper through the chestnut woods: at the sign we take the paved path that bends towards Santa Sofia, beautifully laid out on an airy grassy knoll. Magnificent panorama despite the mist and fog (fountain). It is agreed to continue further, so we cross the picnic area among the trees and reach the dirt road which has made a wide bend: just follow it uphill, steeper at times, to finally arrive at the curve next to the very panoramic Bell Tower of San Leonardo (known as Ciuchè Cit”), overlooking the Po valley. Excellent panorama. We do not go down the short path towards the church but continue on the track that climbs with hairpin bends in the mixed forest, still winter here, passes a ruin and reaches the clearing with the remains of the San Michele houses: there is no trace of a possible chapel. We flatten a little more until we reach the active fountain called Fontana San Michele, where we decide that the goal has been reached.
